Wild Plant Profiles

The easiest way to get to know wild plants is to engage is to start one at a time. Here I have listed my favourites, along with some fun facts and resources --  it is intended to spark your interest. ​

Before foraging, please consult a foraging guide and plant ID guide too. See the resources section for some ideas. Only consume plants you can 100% identify - nature is powerful! 

Evening Primrose

Edible - Known for its skincare benefits, evening primrose is bold and beautiful.  That sweet scent can only be described as summer. So delicate. So subtle. But totally enticing.

Garlic Mustard

Edible - A great plant to get to know when you start foraging, easily identifiable because of the garlic smell when you crush its leaves.

Hawthorn

Edible -  One of our most common trees, yet quietly understated. She's wild, but also planted in hedgerows up and down the country and a key guardian of biodiversity as lots of wildlife depends on her.

HOGWEED

Edible -  is a firm favourite amongst foragers as it has such a distinct taste and a multitude of edible uses.  Despite being a very common plant, it’s not actually that well known amongst the general public

NETTLE

Edible - Most people are aware you can forage nettles and use it in soup, but its nutritional content is often overlooked.

PLANTAIN

Edible - This humble plant, including species like ribwort plantain and broadleaf plantain, thrives in well-trodden areas.

ROSE

Edible - Roses are one of the most beloved and cherished of all the flowers, and certainly the best known.

ROWAN

Edible -  also known as Mountain Ash, this is a gorgeous tree with berries that can be used to make jam. 

Three corned leek

Edible - These beautiful flowers during the spring time. They're so tasty, you could have bought it in the shops! 

Wild Garlic

Edible - Wild garlic - or ramsons - are one of the first plants people think of when you say 'foraging'. For good reason, they're delicious and very potent, easily used as a substitute for shop bought garlic. But also elusive - you have to know where to look!

Yarrow

​ Edible - plant literally has the name of a Greek God in its Latin name - it is both powerful and distinctive, and once you have seen it you will start to notice it everywhere!
